The basics:

Who: Dave Chase
What: 20-something, soon-to-be college graduate
Where: St. Mary’s City, MD
When: Now. Always. Never.
Why: “You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’” -George Bernard Shaw

My story:

I spent my high school years saving the environment with Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program. I guess I didn’t do a very good job since the world still seems to be ending but I did a good enough job to earn a fellowship with the organization. For a year in between high school and college I travelled around the world encouraging young people to better their communities. Plus some other cool things. Not a bad gig.

Throughout my travels, I kept a blog. Not being much of a writer or web-guru (yet), I really had no idea what I was doing. After hours of online tutorials and self-help guides, I figured out how to spread my musing though the interwebs. Ever since, I have developed my skills into a fully-fledged freelance web designer.

Then I went to college (at St. Mary’s College of Maryland) and decided web designin’, though profitable, wasn’t my true calling. In fact, I already knew from my experiences at the Jane Goodall Institute politics intrigued me more than anything else but I felt I owed my parents to find an honorable calling.

I tried my hand at photography and enjoyed capturing the human experience but just for fun. Wrote a bit for the school paper, The Point News, but inevitably ended up on the political beat and the business side as Managing Editor. Finally, I tried my hand at some actual politicsserving as Volunteer Coordinator for Chris Davies for State Delegate and Deputy Campaign Manager for the Committee to Elect Sheila Lyons. Ding-ding. We have a winner!

What’s next?

So far from my life, I gained a strong belief in making the world a better place (thanks Mom, Dad and Dr. Goodall), the skills to promote ideas (web design, photography and message-crafting) and a process to sell those ideas (politics). Throw in great friends, lots of laughs, a college degree, a decent resume… life is good.

So, what’s next? World domination.

But seriously, after graduation I am headed for either Capitol Hill or Annapolis to work for some lucky legislator while I work on getting my J.D. In the meantime, you should hire me to build you a website because I am really good at it and law school is expensive!
