WhiteHouse.Gov
Yesterday, the official White House website, www.whitehouse.gov, went live with it’s brand new design. The design is similar to Obama’s campaign site (www.barackobama.com) and his transition site (www.change.gov). And I must admit, I absolutely love his branding and site design team.
I think that politically, this site represents a step towards a government that is more willing to communicate to it’s citizens via their communication tools. And technologically, it’s not only a beautifully designed site but I am going to go ahead and give it the prize for best designed .gov website.
And I know your wondering what is the worst, well that honored prize goes to the Federal Labor Relations Authority (www.flra.gov)! It was a close tie with the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission (www.fmshrc.gov) but the second’s scrolling banner at least was not choppy. But for the record, scrolling banners died with the advent of CSS…
All joking aside, I think that WhiteHouse.Gov might be the first government website that I actually visit on a regular basis!

It is pretty exciting for those of us who straddle the political and web worlds to have an administration with a blog! Even if the posts don't seem to go in order. The top two posts were posts on the 20th at 12:01 PM, then a post at 2:15 PM then a post on the 21st at 1:21 PM followed by a post on the 20th at 12:01 PM. Woops!
UPDATE: They did fix the above issue shortly after I posted this.
